Moazzam Ali Ghurki, CEO of Intute (Pvt.) Ltd. and President of the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), led a PCJCCI delegation in a meeting with Baligh Ur Rehman, Governor of Punjab, at Governor House, Lahore, to discuss plans for a Pak-China Food and Cultural Analogue aimed at strengthening cultural exchange between the two countries.
Mr. Ghurki outlined plans to host the event at Governor House under the Governor’s patronage, describing it as a platform to highlight the similarities and distinct character of Chinese and Pakistani cuisine, and to send a broader message of alignment between the public and private sectors as Chinese investment and joint ventures in the region continue to grow.
Also present were Hamza Khalid, PCJCCI Vice President; Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General; Daud Ahmed, Executive Committee Member; Syed Ali Raza Rizvi, Chairman of the Tourism Committee; and Col. Ashraf, Executive Committee Member — each raising related priorities during the meeting.
Mr. Khalid pointed to the absence of any systematic data on Chinese investors and businesses operating in Pakistan, and proposed that PCJCCI establish a central data bank to track Chinese investment in the country as a reliable resource for stakeholders. Mr. Ahmed noted the lack of coordinated efforts to attract foreign direct investment, and called for a one-stop-solution model in line with international practice. Mr. Hanif added that PCJCCI hoped to hold the Pak-China Food Analogue in the first week of December 2022, and requested the Governor’s support in organizing it.
The Governor thanked the PCJCCI delegation for its efforts to expand bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and China, and welcomed the Food Analogue proposal, expressing interest in seeing it staged on a large scale.
